Monty eyeing summer return for player with zero game time during short-lived loan spell
Hibs boss Nick Montgomery is keen to bring Owen Bevan back to Easter Road this summer – despite the January signing failing to play a single game for the Hibees. The club confirmed today that the Wales Under-21 international, snapped up on a six-month loan deal, had been released back to parent club Bournemouth because a set-back in his injury recovery would have kept the centre-half sidelined for at least eight weeks.
But, with Bournemouth owner Bill Foley’s investment in Hibs likely to be rubber-stamped by Hibs shareholders at next Tuesday’s AGM, there will be plenty of opportunities for Monty to pick off some of the best Cherries prospects. And he said Bevan will remain on his radar.
Yes, he’s a player the team is eager to add to the roster, Montgomery stated. “So we’ll just keep an eye on that circumstance.”Hopefully, by the conclusion of the season, he will be fully recovered from that ailment. Indeed, we will certainly keep a watch on that matter.
Due to injuries and international commitments in January, Bevan’s signing was viewed as vital for a Hibs team that was severely lacking in central defensive cover. Left defender Jordan Obita was even forced to play center-half during the team’s home loss to Rangers. Nectar Triantis, an A-League winner with Montgomery at Central Coast, is a Sunderland prospect on loan. Since joining during the mid-season window, Triantis has had a rough start to Scottish football. In addition to Paul Hanlon, the club captain, recovering from a recent illness, Hibs have another option in Rocky Bushiri’s return from AFCON service with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
