Nick Montgomery admits unusual Lewis Hibs disciplinary plan

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Hibernian managed to hold on and secure all three points against Dundee. Manager Nick Montgomery was proud of his team.

Jair Tavares and Lewis Miller’s strikes gave the visitors what appeared to be a decisive 2-0 lead in the Premiership encounter.

But Dundee pulled one back through Owen Beck in the 63rd minute, after which the latter was sent off.

To their manager’s joy, Hibs, who had previously let two-goal leads slip this season, survived a late charge to win.

Montgomery stated: “We’ve lost late games when we were up 2-0, but in some of those games we deserved more.” Not everything that comes to you is right.

“I was rather pleased with the boys. They put in a lot of work, so we had to address it inside. We’ve addressed it, and it’s fantastic to see us risking our lives, regardless of whether it was a mental health issue or us not playing football and heads collapsing.

In addition, Montgomery said he would be gentle with Miller, who was dismissed after fouling Beck twice in a half.

“You pick up a silly booking and you’re walking a tightrope,” the manager continued. I haven’t watched his second, but it might have been severe.

“I’ll let him off because he scored the winning goal with the header, but in that moment you regret the first one because it affects you and the team.”

Tony Docherty, the manager of Dundee, felt that Hibs ought to have been down to ten men sooner after Rocky Bushiri had taken out Beck while he was still in midair.

Without interfering, referee Don Robertson flashed a yellow card.

That infuriated Docherty, particularly because the VAR Independent Review Panel decided earlier this week that the Dark Blues had previously been wrongly called this season, with an Amadou Bakayoko score against Livingston and a Josh Mulligan red card at Kilmarnock being chalked off.

To the question of whether Bushiri ought to have been fired, Docherty said, “I believed so.” I thought it was dangerous and rash, and given how quickly Beck was going through it, I was concerned for him.

“I believed it could be a serious injury. VAR must have examined it and concluded that it wasn’t.

“I’m not happy. They made two mistakes that had an impact on us. It’s the effect it has on your season. We lead Kilmarnock 1-0 at the half, but we lose Mulligan and he’s gone for two games.

Additionally, a perfectly nice goal was taken away. Though I’m disappointed, we must go on.
