According to BBC: Hibernian Agreed long team deal with Portsmouth man

Before Josh Martin left to go with League One Portsmouth, Hibernian was reportedly very interested in signing him.

Following his release from Norwich City at the conclusion of the season, the 22-year-old was without a club until he was given the chance to train with Portsmouth.

After accepting the League One team’s offer of a short-term contract, Martin will remain at Fratton Park till at least the middle of January.
It has been revealed, nevertheless, that Hibernian, a team in the Scottish Premiership, competed with John Mousinho’s team for Martin.

The Hibs, led by Nick Montgomery, were keen to sign the free agent winger.

Martin, however, made the decision to join Portsmouth at Fratton Park, where he will be hoping to make an impression in League One.

When Mousinho posted on his team’s official website, “Josh is an excellent player and actually had a couple of other options, but we’re delighted that he’s chosen to sign with us,” he was hinting that Pompey had beaten out other teams for Martin.

Although it’s unknown if the Hibs are considering any other free agents, Montgomery will want to conduct business during the January transfer window.
