Hibernian manager Nick Montgomery provides player latest injury update

HIBERNIAN manager Nick Montgomery has revealed that Josh Campbell twisted his ankle in the Edinburgh derby against Hearts at Easter Road tonight as he admitted he would like to strengthen his “stretched” squad during the January transfer window.

In the first half of a thrilling Premiership match against the Tynecastle club, in which the home team lost 1-0 due to a goal by Lawrence Shankland in the third minute of injury time, Campbell was carried off on a stretcher.

Montgomery estimated that the midfield player would be sidelined for approximately two weeks. The midfielder will miss Hibs’ last league match before the winter break, which is scheduled for this Saturday in Leith versus Motherwell.

The Englishman acknowledged that he was “devastated” that his players were unable to stop Shankland’s long ball up the pitch, which resulted in a winner later on. He also acknowledged that he would like to add a few more players to his roster for next month.

He stated, “Josh Campbell now looks like he might be out for a few weeks.” He just did an ankle twist. I’m not sure how much of it there is. It is likely that a scan on that will be necessary to determine the extent of the injury.

Josh has proven beneficial to us. However, Elie (Youan) entered the game and had a few good chances to score, but tonight it was not to be. Although we have come a long way, it is difficult to accept that these are the outcomes.

We are aware that there aren’t enough bodies right now. All you need to do is compare the two teams’ differences. We possess a few

“We need some players to get back fit, based on the maths. We will take advantage of the chance to add a few players to our team to assist us. I had a conversation about that with the board.

Still, it’s not simple. Excellent players do not come along very often to be idle. Finding a few players who can step in and support us while the boys recover from injuries is what we need to do.

“You can see how stretched the squad is as we are losing four or five players right now, especially with the AFCON and the Asan Cup approaching. However, we must look for the good aspects of that. There

“I am inconsolable,” he declared. Sometimes, it’s a cruel game. In all the time I have been involved in football, there was only one outstanding play towards the end by a top-tier striker. Yes, it is very tragic. It’s time for us to move on from it.

“After the game, I told the boys that I couldn’t ask for anything more from them. Perhaps the last third needs a little more quality. I felt we had sufficient opportunities. The numbers show that we had a higher number of shots, both on and off goal. That’s all I have to ask of them.

“It was just a split second, a slight error in defence that allowed the ball to bounce off a long goal kick. Shankland retreats.
