Hibernian target Leeds United youngster player in January loan move

Ex-Leeds United coach Nick Montgomery could be set to raid his former side in a January transfer loan bid for young defender Kris Moore, according to reports.

Now manager at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, Montgomery has been linked with a move for the Leeds star. The 20-year-old signed a contract extension at Elland Road back in July and has captained the club’s Under-21 side this season.

Despite being named on the substitute list for the Carabao Cup match against Shewsbury Town, he has not yet established himself as a regular member of Daniel Farke’s starting lineup. Leeds is reportedly amenable to him temporarily playing first team football somewhere else; Hibs is one possible destination.

Moore is well respected at Elland Road, and he may decide to gain experience elsewhere, much like Charlie Cresswell, Sam Greenwood, and Joe Gelhardt did in previous seasons. This season, he has made eight appearances for Leeds’ Under-21 team. He also played in the preseason game in Oslo against Manchester United.

Montgomery has admitted he is looking for defensive cover in January, saying: “With Josh Campbell going out, the magic number would be four If we can get two, or one, that’s what we’ll work towards.

“We can only stretch the budget available so far, so that’s why we have to be clinical in our recruitment. We have got a couple of targets but it’s not easy to get quality players in, and to have clubs willing to let them come in for the budget we have available.”
