Hibs player’s pleaded for help after mum left fighting

A Hibernian football player has pleaded for help after her mum was left in a coma following a “freak accident” in Tenerife.

More than £30,000 has been raised for Julie McLaren, from Dalkeith in Midlothian, who is currently in a critical condition after an aneurysm burst in her brain and she collapsed down a set of stairs.

The 57-year-old, the mother of Hibs player Siobhan Hunter, has been put into an induced coma at a hospital in the Canary Islands after the accident left her with fractures to her skull and bleeds on her brain.

Hunter and her sister Georgi have launched a GoFundMe in an effort to raise money to help family members stay on the island with Ms McLaren as she undergoes treatment. After her mother suffered a “freak accident” in Tenerife that left her in a coma, a Hibernian football player has appealed for assistance.

Julie McLaren, of Dalkeith, Midlothian, is in critical condition following the rupture of an aneurysm in her brain, which caused her to fall down a flight of stairs. More than £30,000 has been raised for Julie.

The 57-year-old, who is the mother of Hibs player Siobhan Hunter, was involved in an accident that resulted in skull fractures and brain haemorrhage. She was placed in an induced coma at a Canary Islands hospital.

On Monday, she had emergency brain surgery.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has been hospitalised in Spain and we are in contact with the local authorities.”
