We got the guy we wanted-Frank Reich

When the Carolina Panthers moved up to the top of the NFL Draft to choose quarterback Bryce Young, they forfeited a lot of valuable assets.

Next, at No. 2, the Houston Texans selected quarterback C.J. Stroud.

With just one interception in his first six NFL games, Stroud has thrown for nine touchdowns against a weak opposition. Young has generally had difficulty, and the Panthers are still in the hunt for their first victory of the year.

Some are doubting whether the Panthers selected the correct quarterback in Stroud given his impressive early-career performance. However, the first-year coach of Carolina voiced faith in Young.

Reich declared, “We got the guy that we wanted to get.” “That makes us extremely happy in every aspect. I’m pleased for C.J. He’s already had six excellent games, and I’m sure he’ll have many more. However, I am aware that it takes years, not weeks, to evaluate quarterbacks or any other position.”

This weekend, the Texans will go to Charlotte to play the Panthers and Young. Both quarterbacks have managed their individual roster restrictions, but Young has faced a great deal of strain. In five games, the 22-year-old has been sacked 16 times behind an offensive line that is beset by injuries.

With 967 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions, the former Alabama standout has completed his throwing career.

Still, the slow start for Young hasn’t changed Reich’s view of him as the top prospect coming out of college, something he’s believed since taking over the Panthers in January.

From beginning to end, Bryce Young was the focus of both our attention and mine, Reich said.

Stroud was commended by Texans general manager Nick Caserio for using his abilities.

“I think sometimes people get caught up in they have to do something or try something different,” Caserio stated. “You have to question yourself, ‘Why would I do that?’ if you train a specific manner, according to the coach’s instructions and technique, and then you perform differently during the game.

“There’s no secret recipe. Nobody is going to sprinkle anybody with magical fairy dust. Go out there, be present, perform your duties, and have a positive outlook and the correct mindset.”

Reich maintains his optimism that the Panthers will make a comeback and maintains that Young will only get better as a result of the difficult start.

“I’m sure he’s never experienced anything like a 0-6 start,” Reich stated. “But the way he’s handled that — the resolve and the determination you can see in his eyes and you can feel in his demeanor — is the way you would expect someone with his toughness and competitiveness to handle it.”
