Ex-Huddersfield boss Darren Moore takes charge at League One club’

League One strugglers Port Vale have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield boss Darren More as their new manager.

The 49-year-old signed a five-and-a-half-year contract to work at Vale Park with David Flitcroft, the director of football.

Moore takes over for Andy Crosby, who was fired last week after only one league victory in his previous eight games.

“Darren is our top choice to take over as our new manager, someone who can energise and inspire the team,” Flitcroft stated.

After lengthy talks, the board is convinced that he understands the significance of success on and off the pitch and has a plan for leading the team from the front.

“He embodies every attribute we value in a Port Vale representative, in addition to having the leadership and managerial skills that are so highly coveted in a manager of a professional football team.

“Darren’s appointment is exciting for the club, and I’m thrilled to have him here at Vale Park,” the statement reads.

Moore led Huddersfield to victory in three of his twenty-three games before being fired by the Yorkshire club last month.

“It is evident that Port Vale FC and I are completely in line with our long-term goals, both on and off the pitch,” he continued.

Our short-term goal is to keep the team in League One until the end of the current campaign while laying the groundwork for a distinct football identity.

“Both Port Vale and I are committing to the contract for the long run. It is evidence of the club’s long-term goals and a vision that we as a collective – from myself, the supporters, the club staff and the players – are all striving towards.

“I am incredibly happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

On Saturday, April 20, Port Vale will visit the Toughsheet Community Stadium. When the teams met in September, Wanderers prevailed 1-0, with Dion Charles scoring the game-winning goal just before halftime.
