The Terriers need to look at the bigger picture when considering this man to be their next manager
He was brought in shortly after the departing Neil Warnock, who had kept the team from going down, and shortly after the Owls were promoted by the previous Sheffield Wednesday manager.
Out of the 23 league games he managed at , he only managed three victories.
Owner and chairman Kevin Nagle stated: “We have to make this decision to give us the best chance of maintaining our Sky Bet Championship status come the end of the season” after deciding it was time for Moore to leave the team
“Since starting the job back in September, Darren has put in a tonne of work and is an amazing individual. I hope he has the best future possible; I believe I speak for everyone at the club when I say that.”
The team is currently looking for someone to save them from the fangs of relegation once more.
If only they had a manager who had a reputation for pulling teams out of tight spots.
However, the team cannot keep abandoning promotion every season; this cannot be sustained.
They have obviously been keeping this in mind, since Alan Nixon reports that they have already been in contact with former Swansea City, Barnsley, and Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff through his Patreon account.
Although his most recent managerial position wasn’t very successful, the Terriers should look past this setback in his career.
The 46-year-old’s tenure at Swansea was not what was anticipated.
In his 21 games with the club, he has six wins, six draws, and nine losses. However, there was something wrong with it from the beginning. His play style and philosophy just didn’t mesh well with Swansea’s.
Take a look at the managers they had before and after Duff: Luke Williams, Brendan Rodgers, and Russell Martin.
Each of these youthful, creative coaches plays a visually appealing kind of football. That statement cannot be applicable to Duff’s teams; they dominate games and are entertaining to watch.
During the 2020–21 season, Cheltenham’s winning season in League Two, the team averaged just over 50% each game with the Northern Irishman leading the club.
Less than 50% of the ball was averaged by his Barnsley team from the previous season, which advanced to the play-off final.
With the Swans, you just can’t play like way; their managers have slightly different expectations.
He was a good fit for every team he was at, save from Swansea, and they were all successful. Huddersfield must take into account the circumstances surrounding his prior employment and evaluate the outcomes of his past positions.
They’ve gained some breathing room, but QPR is likely their greater threat in the relegation struggle rather than Wednesday.
Nagle and the likes should be concerned about Marti Cifuentes’ ability to produce results with the small team he has at his disposal.
This could push them in the direction of a manager along the lines of Warnock, however they won’t be able to get him back because he’s going to Aberdeen. However, it might be a better bet for someone of that calibre than Duff to make it through this season.
The 46-year-old has several positive aspects to offer.
In a matter of seasons, he elevated Cheltenham from a relegation-threatened League Two team to League One, and he guided the recently demoted Barnsley team to the verge of regaining promotion to the Championship, albeit not quite.
Maybe not now, but if they make it through and can appoint again in the summer, that kind of management could be perfect for them.
