Good Michael Beale thinks Sunderland “don’t want to get caught up in draws” as he pursues improved results for his side away from the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats chief was addressing the media on Tuesday and spoke of the importance of tonight’s showdown at Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town.
Beale remarked, “I think Huddersfield is a really interesting team that we are playing against.” “They’ve won one of their last five games and scored seven goals in their previous two. In that game, they defeated Southampton on the road by three goals and were ahead heading into the last ten minutes.
There has been some activity there. They are battling for their lives at one end of the table, waiting for a new coach to take over, while our goals are very different. The Championship doesn’t let up. After you leave this game, it immediately resembles the opponent we will play at Birmingham this weekend.
In addition, Beale said, “They are at a stage in the season, like ourselves, where every three points is so important.” Huddersfield is dangerously close to the bottom of the standings.
The form guide and the league standings can often be very different from one another. This time, they are playing at home against Southampton, where they have only lost once in their previous five games. This will be a really difficult game. They are a side that like to play with less possession, as I have observed, but they also play the most forward passes—certainly in the last five or six league games—and rank fifth in terms of shots.
Thus, it foretells what is to come. We must have a solid defensive line and be prepared to engage in combat wherever in the midfield. We won’t be able to exhibit the moments of distraction that we might have had in the first half of the game this past weekend (against Plymouth) and the second half at Middlesbrough. If we want to win by three points, we will need to put in 90 minutes of work.
In this game, the three points are very important for both teams.
“We are playing at a much higher level of quality and speed. You have to find solutions to various puzzles in each game. Credit to the boys for making such a great comeback from where we were at halftime on Saturday (1-0 down) to where we were at full time (3-1 winners).
When asked if he felt the fans were coming around to him, Beale opted to discuss his recent performances, which have the effect of changing the fans’ opinion of the manager.
“I believe we’ve had really good form in the league,” he stated. “You see from the form guidance that we are in the right place. We are almost at the table, where we should be. There have been a few games in the league where we have been disappointed, but I won’t let that discourage me. I feel that we should have gained more from the games when I look at Ipswich and Hull.
“There is a reason why you don’t get three points in every game, and you get frustrated, but I felt the fans were excited by the team at the weekend—Plymouth—in the second half.” That’s how we envision our home stadium to look.
We anticipate a large house in Huddersfield, so those are two significant away games from now. The three things are crucial. We wish to avoid becoming confused by drawings. We need to go get some of these three points on the route because they are really important. And we are certain that the supporters will cheer us on.
