Blackpool made an imminent decision to join Huddersfield Town January’

Huddersfield Town have a major decision to make and it could have major repercussions to Blackpool’s season.

After learning of Huddersfield Town’s attitude, Blackpool may lose top scorer Jordan Rhodes in January. Rhodes is on loan to the Seasiders until the end of the season, although the Terriers can recall him next month.

According to a story on the Sun’s EFL correspondent Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Darren Moore is ‘eager’ to invoke the recall mechanism in Rhodes’ contract. Moore can utilise the’review’ clause early in the window, according to him, and he wants Rhodes in his team after his goal-scoring run at Blackpool. Nixon did add that Rhodes is’settled’ in Blackpool and is happy, and that he may want a role in the decision, with the dispute due to be resolved in the first half of the year week of January.

It is possible that Rhodes’ final game for the club may be against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round. He has already represented Blackpool in the competition, hence he is cup-tied for Huddersfield. Blackpool face Port Vale on Friday, December 29, and Lincoln City at home two days later on Monday, January 1, which would be his final two games if recalled.

The sole advantage of calling Rhodes is that if it is the first week of the window, it provides them enough time to find a successor, but his contribution to the team this season has been essential. This season, the 33-year-old scored 15 goals and provided three assists in League One, tying him with Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May for the league lead.

A saving grace in the saga could be if Rhodes tells his parent club his intentions to remain in Lancashire. In November, Rhodes said he was ‘enjoying his football’ and was hugely positive of his time at the club. He said to the Daily Mirror: “I am really enjoying my football. I can’t say enough good things or good words about Blackpool Football Club as a whole. The environment here, the staff, the players, the whole ethos of the football club and I’m really enjoyed it here. Long may it continue.
