German tactician Andre Breitenreiter promise to Huddersfield Town after his appointment#

Andre Breitenreiter is the new head coach of Huddersfield Town. The 50-year-old German signs a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Terriers, and after the VISA process is finished next week, he will take charge of the first team. Jon Worthington will start tomorrow’s home match against Hull City.

After managing SC Paderborn to the Bundesliga in 2014 and Hannover 96 to the Bundesliga in 2017, Breitenreiter comes to Town having already been promoted twice in his managerial career. He also led FC Zurich to the Swiss Super League championship in 2022.

The 50-year-old, who has managed TSV Havelse and Schalke 04 among other teams, is back in the dugout after a little more than a year away from the game. TSG Hoffenheim fired him most recently in February 2023.

“I’m very excited about Andre’s appointment,” club chairman and town owner Kevin Nagle said in a statement. We were very clear about what we expected from our head coach at the beginning of this process.

“The establishment of a winning culture, where taking risks to try and win all three points in every game—before matchday or during the game—was at the top of that list. A high-tempo, front-foot, all-action style of football is what our fans love, so we also want to deliver that.

Andre is the best person, in our opinion, to deliver this. His winning record is clearly visible to all, and after talking with him, I was struck by how knowledgeable he was. I’m interested to see how he affects our gifted team.

In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to Neil Bennett, Michael Tonge, Jon Worthington, and Kevin Russell for their excellent work as our interim management team. They have made themselves and everyone associated with the club proud, and they are true professionals.”

“Andre was someone we were very interested in speaking with from an early point of our search,” Sporting Director Mark Cartwright continued. Having overachieved with multiple clubs to win titles and promotions in Germany and Switzerland, his track record as a head coach is impeccable.

“His approach to football aligns with our ideal candidate for head coach, and he exudes confidence in his approach from the moment we discussed the possibility.” Kevin has big plans for the future, and he is eager to demonstrate to England that his abilities as a head coach will be successful.

“We believe Andre has the skillset to positively impact our squad in the remaining games of this season, and that together we can build something really exciting for our fans in the future.”
