Huddersfield Town and Hull City ‘monitoring’ former Sheffield Wednesday strike

Huddersfield Town and Hull City are reportedly monitoring Derby County winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Under Paul Warne at Pride Park, the 31-year-old has made an impression in League One this season, tallying five goals and eight assists. But he’s about to enter the last half of his Rams contract.

As reported by Alex Howell of the BBC, Birmingham City, Hull, and Huddersfield are keeping an eye on him. He said, writing on X: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is being watched by Hull, Birmingham, and Huddersfield.

“The winger, who is nearing the end of his contract, has been in excellent form for Derby, tallying 10 assists and 6 goals across all competitions.”

Mendez-Laing, who currently plays in the third division, has extensive experience in the Championship and has also represented Cardiff City in the Premier League. He is also no stranger to Yorkshire, having played for Middlesbrough and Sheffield clubs.

He helped Cardiff gain promotion from the second division in 2018 and was an important member of Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds team. Mendez-Laing left Sheffield Wednesday to join Derby, as the latter tried to hold onto the winger.

But he moved to Derby instead of accepting the offer of a new contract. Alongside him at the club was Joe Wildsmith, the custodian who had declined a contract offer at Hillsborough.

With 76 games played, the winger has contributed 21 assists and 14 goals to the Rams’ record.
