Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of defender Radinio Balker and he could make his debut against Blackburn Rovers.
After paying a seven-figure fee to FC Groningen, the Dutch defender could play against Rovers on Saturday at Ewood Park. The agreement is contingent upon international clearance and confirmation of the visa.
The 25-year-old has over 100 Eredivisie appearances under his belt and signed a contract that runs until 2027. In addition to Bojan Radulovic, he is a new addition to Darren Moore’s team.
“We’ve watched Radinio for some time, and a lot of work has gone into making this move happen,” stated Sporting Director Mark Cartwright. We’re happy he decided to join us because there was a lot of competition for his signature, including from clubs in Europe.
“He demonstrated that he could compete in the Eredivisie against some elite strikers during a difficult period for his team last season. It makes sense that Groningen wanted to hang onto him, but as he approaches the last 18 months of his contract, this is his chance to go.
“We think he has more room to grow as a player, even at the age of 25. That was supported by our initial conversation with him; he is an amazing person who is driven to keep getting better.
“I have to express my gratitude to our owner, Kevin Nagle, for approving this deal, which is among the club’s largest defender acquisitions outside of the Premier League era. In addition to the Bojan Radulović transfer fee, this is an investment that will help us both now and in the future.
There is still a long list of absentees for Huddersfield. Due to an ankle issue, striker Delano Burgzorg, who scored in the rematch, hasn’t played since that Boing Day match.
Danny Ward, Pat Jones, and Kian Harratt are all sidelined due to injuries. With Matty Pearson, Josh Ruffels, and Jaheim Headley—an additional goal scorer in the 3-0 victory—still out of the lineup, they are similarly thin at the back. Yuta Nakayama is on a foreign assignment at this time.
