Huddersfield Town ‘reach agreement’ over January transfer

Chelsea have arranged a loan deal for summer signing Alex Matos to spend the rest of the season on loan at Huddersfield Town, according to various sources.

Matos joined Chelsea in July after his deal with Norwich City expired. Initially, the versatile midfielder was assigned a role in Chelsea’s academy, but he earned his first-team debut in October.

Mauricio Pochettino has often put Matos on the bench since and also used him in a Carabao Cup game in November, but it is unlikely he would play much more if he was to stay at Chelsea.

The club has determined that it would be best to loan him out for the next six months in light of his development.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Chelsea had reached an agreement for Huddersfield to return Matos to the Championship.

The Athletic has also verified the agreement and stated that it will be made public on Wednesday following the player’s trip to West Yorkshire.

The Athletic claims that before deciding on his next move, Matos sought counsel from Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, who was on loan at the same location during the 2021–2022 season.

After that, Matos’ contract at Stamford Bridge runs through 2026, giving him a few more years to establish himself.

Before joining Chelsea, Matos never really made his senior debut for Norwich, making Huddersfield the first team to use him in the Championship.

Matos is the fifth young player from Chelsea in the Championship.
A handful of Chelsea’s prospects are currently growing while on loan in the second division. For instance, midfielder Cesare Casadei plays for Leicester City, winger Omari Hutchinson is with Ipswich Town, forward Mason Burstow is with Sunderland, and defender Bashir Humphreys is with Swansea City.

Chelsea hopes that every player they send out will turn out to be an even greater prospect than the ones in whom they first saw potential.

According to The Athletic, Matos may spend the entire upcoming campaign on loan elsewhere; however, it is unclear if that would be with Huddersfield or somewhere else.

For the teen’s services during the current window, there seemed to be a lot of competition already from within the Championship.
