FLW looks at why Tino Anjorin’s situation at Portsmouth will have Huddersfield Town supporters feeling sympathetic
The 22-year-old midfielder was signed on loan from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, which was a busy one for Pompey as they signed a slew of talented players.
Pompey are presently top of League One, six points clear of second-placed Bolton Wanderers, who have a game in hand.
Alex Robertson has thrived in John Mousinho’s system and is making headlines as Pompey try to return to the Championship for the first time since 2012.
But it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Chelsea loanee Anjorin, who has failed to have a run of appearances due to a poor injury situation.
Injuries have hampered Tino Anjorin’s career so far
Since joining Pompey, Anjorin has featured nine times in all competitions, scoring two goals in that time, and making a decent impression during the early stages of his Portsmouth career.
However, he has not featured since the FA Cup tie away at Chesterfield, where he picked up the unfortunate injury that has kept him out of the last five Pompey games.
Anjorin has suffered an injury at a similar time of year as he did with the Terriers last season, and he’ll be hoping it doesn’t keep him out as long as the previous one did.
The 22-year-old played in eight of Huddersfield’s first nine League games last season, but a series of knocks sidelined him for the rest of the campaign, and he didn’t play a single minute after the game against Cardiff City in September 2022.
While he showed glimpses of his skill in the early parts of his Huddersfield career, notably a brace away at West Brom in a 2-2 draw, injuries wrecked the 22-year-old’s campaign, and there have been concerns that Anjorin’s career may be jeopardised if injuries continue career going forward.
