The Tigers tore Rotherham United to pieces on Tuesday night under the MKM Stadium lights
To be honest, Hull City’s Tuesday night excursion went really well, considering the nature of work nights. The fact that Rotherham United was thrashed 4-1 perhaps doesn’t convey how one-sided the match was.
After going up 3-0 in less than 20 minutes and 4-0 in less than 48, City felt a little jovial and gave the Millers a free kick to give the roughly 500 travelling supporters something to cheer about as they made their way back down the M18.
Nine minutes into a match that was all but gone, goals from Tyler Morton and Jaden Philogene put City ahead by two. Scott Twine added a third goal before the excellent Philogene opened the score in the second half.
By far the most impressive player for the visitors was Millers custodian Viktor Johansson, who prevailed in his own personal match against Liam Delap and preserved some decency in a scoreline that didn’t deserve it.
Even though the competition wasn’t exactly how it seemed, results in the Championship can occasionally seem incredibly biassed. This was one of those occasions where City’s superiority over the opposition caused the score to appear closer than it actually was.
He simply never stops producing. Hull City now have a player who can get them as close to the Premier League as they have been since 2017 when he is healthy and productive. He’s the real deal, and come January, there will definitely be interest in him. Because of Jaden’s electric personality, Rotherham was unable to handle him all evening.
Although his second goal was a bold back flick, it demonstrated his current level of confidence and evident love for the game of football. Tyler Morton deserves recognition as well, as this was just another outstanding performance from the young player in what is quickly building up to be a collection of them.
The win we’ve been waiting for
Probably Sheffield Wednesday aside, this was a performance – and result – fans have been craving. Three goals early on took the game away from a poor Millers side, but City never allowed their opponents to settle in the game. The funny thing being, the visitors were gifted a chance in the opening minute, and things could have been very different.
City put them to the sword thereafter, but given the standards Rosenior has set here, he’ll be unhappy with the goal conceded which was entirely unnecessary. To notch up 12 efforts on target from 22 efforts is good going, and shows good progress from Swansea where they notched 18 efforts, nine of which are on target.
Rosenior’s side continues to grow, to develop and there’s a real likeability about this squad and the way they play, particularly when it clicks like it did here.
