The Turkish entrepreneur came to the squad with high hopes, and he wasn’t afraid to state clearly what he expected from them going forward.
To his credit, he provided financial support for that as well. Funds were provided to new manager Shota Arveladze so he could bolster the team, and with so many players arriving from Turkey, salaries skyrocketed.
However, it was soon recognized that Arveladze wasn’t the right person to provide Ilıcalı the success he wants, therefore the former Rangers striker was let go.
Following that, Ilıcalı made the decision to choose a new path, and this is another action for which he should be highly commended.
Unlike many wealthy men, Ilıcalı wasn’t fixated on getting a prestigious post.
Rather, he went to Liam Rosenior, who had only been replaced a few months before by Derby County of League One.
It was a bold decision, and by no means the glitzy appointment you would expect from an owner who had been heavily featured in the media.

But it’s safe to conclude that, after a little more than a year under Rosenior’s leadership, the decision was a success.
Many of the players that suffered under Arveladze have improved under the former star, who has brought a distinct style of play.
In addition, the transfer policy has been modified to prioritice young, athletic players with English football experience. People like Liam Delap, Scott Twine, and Jaden Philogene in particular seem like smart acquisitions and suit Rosenior’s desired mould.
Hull seems to be making good progress under Rosenior, who is very much a contemporary coach, and they should be competitive for a top six finish this year.
Even still, everyone can agree that the Tigers are a team on the rise, even if they struggle in the current season.
Thus, there is much significance in discussing a new agreement for Rosenior, and this will be another way Ilıcalı supports Rosenior.
There have been rumours that other teams may be interested in the head coach, which will understandably alarm some Hull supporters. In actuality, though, competitors are paying notice since it shows how much they are doing correctly.
Although a new contract won’t ensure Rosenior’s future, it will demonstrate the manager’s desire to remain with the Tigers and support their current course.
Hull’s life under Ilıcalı had been frantic and chaotic at first, so you never really knew what was in store for them.
Though Rosenior is the leader of the football team, Ilıcalı should be commended for funding this endeavour, since they currently seem to be a steady team that is progressing.
Rosenior deserves a better contract, and he will further solidify the notion that Hull is headed in the right direction.
