Balmforth’s Hull FC future in balance as club set to make key decision

Hull FC are still to come to a decision on whether to keep Denive Balmforth at the club for next year and beyond. The 20-year-old hooker is out of contract at the end of the season, and as of yet, Hull Live has been told a final call is yet to be made.

Of course, Balmforth signed for the Black and Whites as a teenager from Warrington Wolves on a two-year contract back in 2022. They then activated a club option last year to keep the hooker at the club for 2024, having spent the majority of last season on loan at then Championship outfit Newcastle Thunder.

However, it is still to be determined whether Balmforth’s time at the club will extend into 2025, with the player free to speak to other clubs about his future after the passing of rugby league’s anti-tampering date last month.

It is understood by Hull Live that Balmforth would love to remain in Hull. The hooker has made it clear that he intends to compete for a seat at this club, no matter who else may challenge him.

It is understood that the club will not make a decision until after the player’s performance in the second half of the season. It’s also quite probable that Balmforth’s previous two performances had an impact on this decision; the challenge now is to persevere and seize any possibilities that present themselves.

Balmforth has contributed significantly to Hull’s last two Super League games and is displaying a number of encouraging indicators. In both games, he scored a try—one on a close-range scoot and the other on an interception that took him 50 meters. In addition, he has one assist to his credit and has contributed to other attempts in accounts that were undoubtedly noteworthy.
