Hull FC sign former loan player as domestic recruitment drive continues

Hull FC have signed Ireland international Ed Chamberlain for the 2025 season. Hull Live understands that the Black and Whites have secured a move for their former loan player, with the 28-year-old, who is currently at Leigh Leopards, becoming the club’s sixth signing for next year and beyond.

Four of those signings have come from Leigh, with Hull also acquiring John Asiata, Zak Hardaker, and Oliver Holmes in what is an ongoing recruitment drive for 2025. They have also landed Jordan Abdull from Hull KR and Amir Bourouh from Salford Red Devils, and are still on the hunt to strengthen their squad.

Chamberlain, meanwhile, is no stranger to Hull, having played two games on loan earlier this year. Featuring against Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos, the centre, who can also double up as a back-rower, was then recalled by his parent club and has featured back in Adrain Lam’s side in recent weeks.

The Warrington native, who nearly finalized an extension with current club Leigh, impressed Hull during that stint. It is understood that the club, whose domestic recruitment is being headed by Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, stepped in late with an offer to land the player.

Though current center Liam Sutcliffe is expected to be released from his final year of a three-year contract to join the Huddersfield Giants, as first reported by Hull Live on Wednesday, Chamberlain has now secured a deal with Hull and will argue for a starting spot at the Black and Whites next year.

With over 150 professional matches under his belt, Chamberlain, who turns 29 in February, will provide Hull with some much-needed experience, a quality they have prized to bolster what is currently a fairly young side.

Chamberlain made his senior debut at Whitehaven after rising through the junior ranks at Widnes Vikings. In addition, he played for the London Broncos, Workington Town, Bradford Bulls, Salford Red Devils, and six times for Ireland on the international circuit.
