Hull FC player Cam Scott has hit out at social media comments following confirmation of his move to Wakefield Trinity. The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the West Yorkshire club from the 2025 season, who hold the option of a third year.
Scott was first linked with Wakefield back in March, with the ambitious club setting their sights on the rising Hull FC talent, who signed for the Black and Whites as an academy player back in 2017.
The centre, who has also doubled up as back-rower over the last couple of seasons, saw his future officially announced on Tuesday, and has received plenty of ‘backlash’ on social media since, with users speculating on the salary offered to the player at Wakefield. Scott has now responded to those comments, saying such things are not ‘common knowledge’ and that any speculation on the quoted figures is ‘wild.’
“I’ve never been one to do this but after the news yesterday, I’ve had a fair bit of backlash and plenty of unjust comments,” Scott wrote in a post on his X account, which was originally Twitter.
People jumping on rumors of “what they’ve heard” and then taking to every social media platform to share their opinions about me as a player and a person is simply mind-boggling. “What I get paid is not common knowledge.”
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, if there is no truth in it and they’ve latched onto whatever ‘they’ve heard’ and ran with it, then it’s just ridiculous and says more about them than it does me.
“Some of the numbers I’ve seen and what people have believed from others posting is wild and if you want to run with what somebody has told you on Facebook or Twitter, then that really says more about those individuals than it does me.”
