Richie Myler backed to give Hull FC clear direction as they faces tough recruitment reality

However, working behind the scenes, Myler has been busy identifying a head coach shortlist and both domestic and overseas players, with Hull tasked with getting out of their current plight, which sees them sitting 11th on the Super League table following seven defeats in eight games.

Jamie Jones Buchanan is backing Richie Myler to bring some ‘courage, conviction, and ideas’ to Hull FC. The Black and Whites confirmed the appointment of Myler as Director of Rugby last Monday, with the 33-year-old officially starting his new role on Wednesday.

Asked on Sky Sports what he expects Myler to deliver at Hull, Jones-Buchanan said: “Courage, conviction, some ideas—I reckon he’s got a bit of everything. That’s what I admire about Richie Myler.

“He’s tenacious and strong; he’ll bring some ideas with him. Based on a few of the introductory remarks (which you can read here), he appears to know where he wants to go. I believe Richie Myler will provide them with a clear sense of purpose.

Does he not enjoy the world that has been “rebuilt”? I’m not a fan of Hull FC, but I adore the club and their brand; just take a look at some of these records. I recall their behaviour at the Boulevard and the anxiety you used to have when visiting.

“Rugby League is almost like a religion, and what Richie Myler has got to do is take centre stage in the middle of that pitch, sing Old Faithful, endear the fans that he’s going to come in, revive it, re-tell the narrative, and drive them forward.”

Myler signs a three-year contract with Hull FC, and Hull Live has learned that he is a part of an investment group. Hull Live’s report on investment was verified by Adam Pearson last week, and the team plans to raise funds this season.
