Hull KR boss Willie Peters vows not to be fooled by Huddersfield Giants’ lowly position

After winning back-to-back games following their elimination from the Challenge Cup semi-final, the third-placed Robins have the chance to climb into a tie for first position tonight.

Huddersfield, on the other hand, are in ninth place after winning only one in their previous five games, that victory coming against the lowly Hull FC.

Ian Watson’s team is currently four points outside of the play-off spots going into a demanding month that includes away games against Rovers, Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons, and Leigh Leopards.

“It’s a very tight competition,” said Peters

“Two games remain until the international break. You go to a different level than you are now if you win those two games.

“We hold Huddersfield in high regard. Ian Watson is an excellent coach who clearly pays attention to detail in all they do.

However, we constantly consider our controllable options. I am aware of the players we have in our locker room, as demonstrated by our recent wins against London and a hard-fought match against a formidable Leigh squad.

“If we get our end right, it puts us in a good position.

Huddersfield had a very terrible season in 2023 and continued their inconsistent play into this year, losing five straight games after going on a five-game winning streak.

The Giants, who have scored 50 points three times, are the only team in the top four to have scored more tries than them.Even if Jake Connor is out ahead of his anticipated loan exit, Peters is cautious about the attacking threats in the Huddersfield starting lineup.

“They’re pretty structured in the way they attack in terms of their framework,” said Peters.

“On the basis of that foundation, they have guys that you can’t prepare for because they are impromptu players.

“You must consider how you can manage the challenges that come your way. That means remaining true to our systems, continuing to put in a lot of effort for one another, and refusing to back down because you can’t afford to against players like Connor and Tui Lolohea. We have a good notion of what they’ll throw at us, but on play three, you have to be prepared for kicks. I say this with all due respect, but we need to keep developing and advancing since occasionally players aren’t as skilled as they should be.

“Players like that are also among us. Mikey Lewis is going to give people headaches.
