Hull KR injury blow confirmed with Jez Litten withdrawal explained

Hull KR look set to be without James Batchelor for next week’s trip to Castleford Tigers. The back-rower did not return after half-time, with Willie Peters confirming he had suffered an injury.

The extent of the issue is not yet known, but the Robins head coach was of the belief that it would prevent him from taking to the field next Thursday, when the Robins travel to the Jungle to take on Craig Lingard’s Tigers.

The 26-year-old has been an ever-present in the Rovers side this year, providing the side with a stream of consistent performances throughout the season. However, Rovers will need to rely on that from elsewhere next weekend.

“We’re hoping it’s just a tight hammy and a light strain, but I don’t think he will be OK for next week,” Peters said.

He did confirm that there were no issues with Jez Litten, who came off earlier than usual in the game for fellow hooker Matt Parcell. Litten was withdrawn before half-time and did not return after, but Peters confirmed it was a tactical move.

“I wanted to get a bit of leg speed on. That game was tough, and it was a grinding sort of game. I thought bringing on Kelepi (Tanginoa), Sam Luckley and Matty Parcell, bringing those guys on would bring us leg speed, and they did. It was then difficult to get Jez back on because we lost Batch at halftime with a hammy.”

On the game itself, Peters added: “I don’t think the score reflected the game itself. It was a tough, physical game. You could see the little wins they were celebrating, and we could see we were playing a team that would fight until the end. We had to be on and I thought we went to another level when we needed to, which I was proud about.”
