Willie Peters opens up on Hull KR injury blow as key man ruled out

Tyrone May won’t be available for Hull KR’s game against the London Broncos at Craven Park this week, according to Willie Peters. At Headingley on Saturday, the Robins triumphed over Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos after coming back from a deficit. However, it appears that the victory had a cost.

Half-back May reported having headaches following the match. Following an evaluation by Rovers’ medical staff, he will be given this week off in the hopes of being able to play on August 2 against Warrington Wolves.

He started having headaches and other symptoms after the game, so our doctor examined him. He won’t be playing this week because of a headache, Peters told the BBC at his pre-game press conference.

Danny Richardson is, of course, available for KR, and it appears that the Castleford Tigers loanee might be the man to step into May’s shoes in the pivots as the east Hull team looks to draw even with the league-leading Wigan Warriors.

However, with Elliot Minchella, Niall Evalds, and James Batchelor pressing to be ready to play against the Broncos, Peters appears set to make some last-minute checks on the health of a number of other big names as the week goes on.

“We’re not sure yet,” Peters responded when asked about Minchella. Mini will be given a squad name, and at the end of the week, a decision will be made.

“We will make a call on a couple of players at the back end of the week,” he continued, naming James Batchelor and Niall Edalds.

“We’ll wait to call Niall until we see how he trains and if he’s prepared to go.

“I thought Jack (Broadbent) performed well [last weekend] at full-back. He made a few mistakes there, which I’m sure people will focus on, but for us, there were some unfortunate circumstances involved, particularly in the second one with the ball’s bounce.

“We’re definitely not evaluating his game based on the first one—even the best full-backs miss passes occasionally. Therefore, we know Jack will perform well for us if and when he takes the field, regardless of position.
