Lionel Messi land post-playing Inter Miami role, after comments from Argentina manager:

It’s been one year since Lionel Messi led Argentina to a historic third FIFA World Cup as the Inter Miami forward starred in the final against France.

A brace and a goal in the shootout saw Messi secure his status as the Greatest Of All Time in what many consider to be one of the most entertaining soccer matches of all time.

And in a recent interview with Laureus Spirit of Sport, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni lauded Messi’s leadership during the final and the entire tournament, which could strongly hint at a post-playing role at Inter Miami.

With Messi 36-years-old, post-playing options will be at the forefront of the Inter Miami captain’s mind, and Scaloni has hinted that coaching be in the forward’s future.

The World Cup winning manager said when asked about Messi’s leadership qualities: “He has his way of leading. As the captain he is a leader and he drives his team-mates on.

“And of course, he also leads by example, by beating his opponents. He’s always helped us, he’s always been great with us and it’s a pleasure to coach him.”

Indeed, Messi has been tipped for a coaching role for some years now, and Inter Miami could be where the soccer legend begins his journey in taking on a new perspective of the beautiful game.

Whilst Tata Martino is unlikely to leave Inter Miami having just joined the MLS franchise, Messi could be currently training to become the Herons’ manager’s successor later down the line.

And given how hard it is to manage in MLS due to the unique rules the league has adopted, Messi thriving in America as a manager could set Messi up for unrivalled success in coaching.

Indeed, the likes of Jesse Marsch, Patrick Vieira and Jim Curtin all for their start in coaching in MLS, and Messi could be next to make a name for himself on the touchline with Inter Miami in the years to come.
