On Thursday, the Big Ten Conference unveiled Iowa football’s finalized 2024 schedule.
The city of Iowa City With all of the conference changes, it has taken a while, but Iowa’s Big Ten schedule for 2024 is finally available. The Big Ten released everyone’s finalized schedule on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawkeyes will begin the month of October with a challenging back-to-back when they depart for Ohio State on October 5 and then come home to host Washington. Iowa’s first four Big Ten games are away from home. Iowa will have a later bye week than usual because they don’t have a game on November 16.
The following week, on September 21, the Big Ten portion of the schedule kicks off in Minneapolis against Minnesota. The first of two byes for the Hawkeyes will come the weekend of September 28.
Iowa resumes play Oct. 5, with its second straight road game to start league play at Ohio State in Columbus. It will mark the first time since the 1971 season that the Hawkeyes open Big Ten competition with consecutive road contests.
The Hawkeyes’ conference home opener comes against Washington on Oct. 12. The month of October concludes with games at Michigan State (Oct. 19) and hosting Northwestern (Oct. 26).
The month of November opens with the Hawkeyes entertaining Wisconsin (Oct. 2) before traveling to Los Angeles to face UCLA (Nov. 9). Iowa will have its second bye the weekend of Nov. 16, before rounding out the regular season at Maryland (Nov. 23) and hosting the annual Black Friday contest versus Nebraska (Nov. 29). Iowa will travel 5,388 miles during the month of November with trips to each coast in a three-week span.
The Big Ten Championship game is slated for Dec. 7 in Indianapolis.

The Big Ten announced its new format for football, featuring protected rivalries and the elimination of divisions, and future opponents for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, after the additions of USC and UCLA, in June. The conference had to revise those schedules following further additions of Oregon and Washington, announcing future opponents for each team through the 2028 season last month.
Iowa’s non-conference slate will include Illinois State (August 31), Iowa State (September 7) and Troy (September 14).
