Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz releases unbelievable statement on his future:

Ferentz provided clarity about his coaching future on Wednesday.

Following the announcement that his offensive coordinator and son Brian Ferentz would be leaving their positions after the 2023 season, there have been many inquiries about Kirk Ferentz’s future as the head football coach at the University of Iowa.

During his weekly news conference on Tuesday, Ferentz appeared to skirt the question. However, he later issued a statement on Wednesday, stating during Hawk Talk that he intends to be the head coach of the Iowa football programme for the upcoming few years.

“While my immediate focus is finishing the season strong, I love coaching and my intent is to continue coaching here at the University of Iowa,” Ferentz said via a release. “We have built something very special here and I plan to coach until I am no longer passionate about the game, players, or coaches.”

Ferentz had more comments on his weekly Hawk Talk appearance with Gary Dolphin.

“I enjoy coaching, I feel really good,” Ferentz said. “The doctors tell me they’re okay, and I hope they’re right. I hope to keep doing this for quite a while. I’ve always loved being here, I’ve been here 34 years now. All I got to tell you, is when the wind is blowing it was this morning, or yesterday morning. Outside of that, I like what I do, and most of all, I like the young people that we’ve had the chance to work with.”

“There are a lot of things I don’t like week about college football right now, and that came to crescendo last December. That’s part of it. As long as the good things far outweigh the bad things.”

“Until they tell me to sit down, I’ll keep going.”

The Hawkeyes are 6-2 this season with four games remaining on the regular season schedule. Iowa is very much in play for a Big Ten West title despite the disappointing loss to Minnesota a couple of weeks ago.

This year’s team has the chance to be the tenth 10-win regular season team in Iowa program history this year if it can win out the rest of the way.

Ferentz previously agreed to a contract extension through 2029, and despite the news of his son being let go, Ferentz seems to have full intent on continuing to be the head coach at the University of Iowa despite the speculation from outsiders.

Iowa and Northwestern will go head to head on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2:30 PM CT on Peacock. The two teams will matchup at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
