Ipswich Town could utilise the loan market again this January, with a whole host of talented youngsters for him to pick from
During the summer transfer window, Kieran McKenna made good use of his prior contacts. The 23-year-old Brandon Williams, who was signed on a loan, turned out to be a brilliant addition for Ipswich Town.
In 10 appearances under McKenna in his new surroundings, the wide full-back has scored two goals, including a vital late strike away at Huddersfield to secure a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw back in September.
After missing the team’s past few games due to sickness, the Ipswich manager will be hoping to make a big splash once more in the forthcoming transfer window when it comes to bringing in loanees to improve his squad ahead of the team’s crucial remaining months in the promotion battle.
Here are three loan signings that Ipswich may attempt to recruit in January in an attempt to emulate Williams’s remarkable achievement…
GK – Jamie Cumming
Ipswich may try to sign a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window in order to address the lack of clean sheets at Portman Road over the last two games. The Tractor Boys have given up nine goals in their four games this November, with their most recent shut-out coming in a 1-0 victory at Bristol City at the end of the month.
Jamie Cumming, a 24-year-old veteran goalie who has played 145 games away from parent club Chelsea at several EFL loan teams, may be the answer McKenna is looking for.
The 6-foot-2 goalie was a constant for MK Dons in all 46 league games during the previous season, with 11 clean sheets overall.
This Chelsea custodian may be the ideal choice for Ipswich if they need a temporary solution between the posts.
CB – Kaelan Casey
Ipswich, who frequently rely on the Tractor Boys for support in attack, may also aim to add players to their defence in January. However, this enthusiastic attitude could not be long-lasting.
Therefore, McKenna might make good use of the loan market to bring in new blood at the centre of defence, and West Ham’s Kaelan Casey might be the young player he’s been eyeing.
The 19-year-old, who is currently the captain of the West Ham U21s, is blossoming into one of the team’s best players. He even scored this season against Leeds U21s while wearing the armband before going back to playing centre defender.
The teenage defender, who has not yet been loaned out from West Ham, might benefit greatly from a transfer to Ipswich, where the Tractor Boys will also get a fresh addition to support their inconsistent defence.
LW – Charles Sagoe Jr
McKenna may also be persuaded to bring in Charles Sagoe Jr., an Arsenal youth player who is just one of the many promising players coming out of the Emirates, as another dynamic attacker.
Sagoe Jr., an attacker who can score goals but also takes pleasure in his ability to create and contribute assists, would fit in into the Tractor Boys’ setup.
Ipswich’s overall performance this season has demonstrated how the goals are distributed across a potent offensive group, with players like Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin contributing a combined 12 goals and six assists across all competitions.
The 19-year-old forward for Arsenal has only managed one goal in Premier League 2 this season, but he has racked up an astounding five assists in seven games, three of which came against the Manchester United U21s, with Sagoe Jr. playing a key role in helping Arsenal win 4-2 that day.
Sagoe Jr. is now prepared for a Championship loan, and he even made his professional debut in the EFL Cup against Brentford as a result.
