M6 closed in both directions due to crash that had rescue team struggling to save five

A major motorway was closed in both directions following a crash that left a man with serious injuries and four other people hospitalised.

At approximately 2:00 PM, Lancashire Police received reports of a single-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway between junctions 33 at Galgate and junction 32 with the M55.

In order for the paramedics to evaluate the injured, the northbound carriageway was closed to landing when the North West Air Ambulance arrived on the scene.

Although Lancashire Police have stated that the motorway is anticipated to remain closed for some time, no additional information has been made public regarding the man who was left with serious injuries.

There are significant delays, and as traffic diverts, there is congestion just after J34 (Lancaster), through Lancaster, and through Garstang.

Cameras reveal that trapped traffic is being released from the rear of the lines onto a service lane; however, because the trucks aren’t meant to travel via the service route, they have been piled inside the closure.

“We received a report of a collision involving one vehicle between junction 32 and 33 of the M6 at around 2pm today,” a Lancashire Police spokesperson stated.

“A man with significant injuries was brought to the hospital.

“A hospital has been notified about the injuries of four additional individuals.

“We will provide you with an update as soon as we can. The motorway between junctions 32 and 33 is closed in both directions.
