Following an earlier collision at a crucial river crossing, delays have cleared.
Throughout the morning rush hour, there was a queue of cars on the A289 via the Medway Tunnel, stretching from Maritime Way in Gillingham to Anthonys Way in Rochester.
One lane of the carriageway heading towards Strood was closed as a result of the collision, which is believed to have involved three vehicles. A damaged vehicle was recovered.
Until roughly 10am, there were delays for drivers. Now, traffic is moving normally again.
“I queued for about 20 minutes from near the police station and then into the tunnel where the three cars had crashed in the middle,” stated a driver on their way to work on Medway City Estate.
“A police car was parked across the carriageway, forcing other cars into the right-hand lane, and the drivers and passengers were at the side of the road.”
“There were no ambulances or fire engines and traffic soon cleared as you got past the accident scene.”
