Derek McInnes reveals reason behind Kevin van Veen no show for Kilmarnock*

It took the Rugby Park referee an hour to realise that he had strained his hamstring during the warm-up.

Derek McInnes disclosed that he was unable to start Kevin van Veen against Aberdeen due to a hamstring injury sustained during the warm-up.

The manager was eager to deploy the Dutch striker with Kilmarnock behind 2-1 at Pittodrie in their Scottish Cup quarterfinal match. However, he claims that he was not informed prior to the game that Van Veen had strained his body, preventing him from playing.

Killie couldn’t be happier with the result despite his lacklustre performance against the Dons. They were rightfully defeated in front of a sizable travelling fan base, despite Danny Armstrong’s goal just before halftime that tied the score. McInnes made every attempt to save it from the bench, but he was unable to utilise Van Veen, his huge January acquisition.

“Kevin got a hamstring injury in the warm-up which I only found out about after an hour or so when I wanted to use him,” the man stated afterwards. That clarifies the reason behind his absence today.
