Discover illegal products being sold in three Kilmarnock shops

Despite some items being very well concealed, Boo the dog still managed to sniff out illicit products.

Three organisations came together to address the expanding issue of vapes, and a blitz was launched against three businesses.

On June 12, Police Scotland , Kilmarnock Trading Standards, and a Consumer Protection dog unit cooperated in a significant coordinated effort to target retailers of illicit nicotine vapour products.
The day’s hero, Boo, is a German Wirehaired Pointer/Labrador mix who has been specially taught to detect nicotine products.

Kilmarnock’s five vape retailers were visited.
It was discovered that two establishments in Irvine and one in Saltcoats were selling illegal nicotine products. These products were confiscated, as our photo illustrates.

Even though some of these things were expertly hidden, Boo and his dog handler quickly located them.

In addition to frequently failing to fulfil UK regulations in terms of child-resistant packaging, leakage protection, and other serious health and safety issues, counterfeit vapes typically contain dangerously high nicotine levels.

More than 800 cigarettes’ worth of nicotine—more than 16 times the legal limit in the UK—was found in some of the disposable vape devices that were seized.
