For people in need, a mobile luxury hair salon and barber service is being introduced by a charitable team.
The founding members of East Ayrshire Churches Homeless Action transformed a van into a mobile salon and visited organisations and charities all over the county, collaborating closely with partners like Police Scotland and the Fire Service. This led to the formation of EACHA Cut and Connect SCIO.
The service will launch on March 4 and will offer professional haircuts at no cost for individuals facing financial challenges or other hardships. Whilst using this service and if required, clients will then be signposted to other services such as recovery, domestic abuse and benefits. Gayle Watson, Trustee of EACHA Cut and Connect SCIO, said: “Our charitable mission is to provide free hairdressing and barbering services to individuals in need, with a focus on promoting self-esteem, dignity, and well-being within our community.
“With professional grooming services, we hope to empower those who may be homeless, struggling financially, or experiencing other difficult situations. These services not only improve their physical appearance but also increase their self-worth and confidence. By providing free haircuts and barbering services, we hope to strengthen the community, restore dignity, encourage inclusivity, boost employability, and develop self-confidence.
The 48-year-old Gayle continued, “This project has been driven in direct response to the effects of the global pandemic on communities and will have an immediate impact on tackling the biggest challenges, such as social isolation and mental health wellbeing while simultaneously seeking to address the regeneration of our towns and most deprived neighbourhoods.”
