Woman, 39, and her daughter, 7, have lost all of their belongings after an electrical fire at their house on Monday, January 8
A mother says she’s lost everything after a fire ripped through her Kilmarnock home.
The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said she was taking her seven-year-old daughter to school and came home to fire engines tackling a blaze at her house on Monday morning.
When the fire started at the house on Danny Coffey Avenue, everything they owned—including clothing, furniture, and priceless Christmas gifts—was lost.
“I was taking my little girl to school, and I didn’t know about the fire until I got back, and there were fire engines outside our house,” the 39-year-old lady stated.
All of their belongings, including clothes, furniture and treasured Christmas presents have been destroyed after the inferno took hold at the house on Danny Coffey Avenue.
The woman, 39, said: “I was taking my little girl to school and found out about the fire only when I returned and there were fire engines outside our home.
My heart stopped.
“I feel very numb. We have lost everything but at least me and my daughter are ok.”
Neighbours initially spotted the flames at around 9am and sounded the alarm.
And it’s suspected that the fire originated from a laptop charger that was plugged in in one of the bedrooms.
Now kind neighbours and friends have rallied round the family to give them support.
The mum added: “I told my daughter about this after school. She was heartbroken.
“I can’t thank my neighbours and everyone around me who have come together and got toys and clothes for my little one.”
One of the next door neighbours, Skye Jones, also decided to create a GoFundMe page to help a family “get back on their feet”.
Skye, 20, said: “I wasn’t at home, one of my neighbours phoned me to say the firefighters were trying to get in my house as they thought I was in there asleep.
“I was shocked and rushed home to see what had happened.
“As it is only the wall that separates us, I was worried in case it had spread into my house but luckily enough for me it hadn’t.”
She continued: “I decided to create the GoFundMe as I couldn’t imagine being put in a position losing everything straight after Christmas.
“I set the goal at £750 hoping it can help get her and her daughter back on their feet a little considering what has happened to them.”
Over £400 has been raised already and Skye is hoping that more people can help out her neighbour.
