Kilmarnock Police detail 4am swoop on £150,000 cannabis farm on high street”

Police have confirmed that seven men have been arrested and charged in connection with the grow operation.

Following the discovery of a huge cannabis farm valued at £150,000 in Kilmarnock town centre yesterday, seven men have been accused.

Around four in the morning on Thursday, police descended onto a vacant building on King Street after noticing suspicious activity nearby.

As they began their investigation into the narcotics haul, police closed off the major shopping area throughout morning on Thursday.

A water rescue team was contacted, however they were stood down, according to Scottish Fire and Rescue, who also confirmed they were present.

A few hours later, forensic officers were observed at the scene, coming in through a side door with clear bags and black holdalls.

Seven guys have been detained and charged in relation to the grow operation, according to confirmation from the police today. At this point, the men’s ages remain unknown.

Although investigations are still underway, the overall worth of the cultivation is still unknown, but according to the police, the estimated value of the plants collected is as high as £150,000.

Today is the men’s scheduled appearance before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. We are going to submit a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Seven males have been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery of a substantial cannabis plantation within a disused building in King Street, Kilmarnock’, a Police Scotland spokesperson said.

“On Thursday, March 7, 2024, at around 4 a.m., officers were alerted to a report of suspicious behaviour in the vicinity. That is when they made the discovery.

“While investigations are still on to determine the exact amount recovered, the plants discovered inside the structure are thought to be worth up to £150,000 on the open market.

“The seven men are due to appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, 8 March, 2024, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service released the following statement: “On Thursday, March 7, at 7:35 a.m., we received an alert to assist our partners in King Street, Kilmarnock.
