Man and woman found dead at house after police ‘force entry’ to home’

It’s understood that a concerned neighbour raised the alarm before the grim discovery was made on Wednesday night.

Following the discovery of two elderly people’s bodies in a property, a police investigation was initiated. Officers were called to the Rochdale, Greater Manchester, residence by emergency services in response to a welfare complaint.

It is believed that the alarm was sounded by a worried neighbour prior to the sombre finding being made on Wednesday night.

According to the MEN, two persons in their 70s were discovered dead when police broke into a house at The Woods, close to Castleton Moor.
The quiet cul-de-sac saw a massive emergency reaction, involving paramedics, firefighters, forensic experts and representatives from the gas distribution firm Cadent.

A post mortem by the Home Office will now be conducted, as the reason of their death is still unknown.
Throughout the night, forensics personnel wearing white coats were observed entering the detached home as part of ongoing investigations.

One horrified local stated, “We don’t really know the family but they’re an elderly couple,” after the twin tragedies. a really pleasant pair. There are only two of them. It’s quite strange to see that on your doorstep since I only moved here a year ago.”

Another neighbour told the M.E.N: “It’s an elderly couple who live there and I don’t get to see them that often, we just wave when we’re going out.”

Another described the scene as they returned home from work, adding: “All I know is that I came home and saw lots of police. I know that a couple live there and I know that they’re elderly. I don’t know what happened but it looks pretty serious.”

A GMP investigation is ongoing and files will be passed to the coroner.
