Police called to busy Kilmarnock road following sudden death of man

Police were called out to a busy Kilmarnock road on Thursday evening following the sudden death of a man.

Dundonald Road was closed for several hours following the unexplained death of an 70-year-old man.

The incident took place near Porter Drive, close to the A71 bypass flyover bridge.

It’s understood the man at the centre of the incident was a cyclist and that no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Police confirmed today that while the death is unexplained that there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance confirmed the road had reopened four hours after the incident was first reported to authorities.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.05pm on Thursday, June 20, police were called to Dundonald Road, Kilmarnock, following the sudden death of an 70-year-old man.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained but there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
