Following a terrifying smash this morning in Kilmarnock, a woman has passed away.
At approximately 9.35 am, the 24-year-old was declared deceased at the scene of the two-car collision on the B7038 Ayr Road.
The woman’s next of kin have been notified, according to the police, although formal identification has not yet occurred.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa died following an accident with an Audi Q2.
The 64-year-old female passenger and the 67-year-old female driver of the Audi were brought to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for medical attention. Their health status has not been made public.
After the incident, road police are now requesting information.
The Road Policing Unit’s sergeant Martin Cunningham stated: “We’re still investigating the complete set of circumstances surrounding what transpired. We are saddened by the loss of this young woman, and our prayers are with her friends and family.
Emergency services were in attendance for most of the day dealing with the fallout of the collision, with drivers being diverted towards Caprington Estate and Gatehead.
An eyewitness at the scene said: “The full road was all shut off as you headed towards the A77.
“There was a van in place to stop cars going round the road closed signs, and there were multiple police cars and at least one fire engine at the crash site.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have dash cam footage to get in touch with us as soon as possible if they haven’t already spoken to the police or given them this information.”
About six and a half hours were spent with the route closed. I would want to express my gratitude to the public for bearing with us as we looked into this very tragic collision.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland at 101 and reference Monday, December 18, 2023, incident number 0830.”
