The Reason Why Designer Rooms are Relocated in Kilmarnock

As The Designer Rooms approaches its 14th year of operation, the ever-expanding local business is thrilled to announce that their newest – and largest – superstore will open in Summer 2024 right in the heart of Kilmarnock town centre.

The existing Poundstretchers store on Fowlds Street in Kilmarnock will close at the end of March, with local company The Designer Rooms taking over. In true DR fashion, the 36000-square-foot store will be completely transformed, with shop-fitting plans already beginning. The cutting-edge furniture superstore will significantly transform this section of Kilmarnock town centre, increasing the bar for nearby merchants and creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. This will be one of Scotland’s largest independent furniture stores, specialised in exclusively created furniture for every room of your home, and will have a private car park with 80 spots.

The Designer Rooms team, a local family-run business, is very delighted to undertake this project, which will use all local contractors and tradesmen, with the idea of ‘Ayrshire supporting Ayrshire’. With over 100 local employees currently, this new location will provide a large number of additional jobs, both in-store and behind the scenes.

The Designer Rooms would like to thank East Ayrshire Council for their assistance in facilitating this new initiative, which will benefit this end of Kilmarnock town centre.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of East Ayrshire Council, welcomed the announcement of the local extension. He said: “This is fantastic news for Kilmarnock. It’s heartening to see local businesses thrive and grow in this way, and we’re thrilled that The Designer Rooms have chosen to remain in East Ayrshire. This larger property, with dedicated parking, will significantly boost the retail offering in this area of the town centre, complementing our objective of creating a dynamic town centre.”

So, what does this step entail? To support this transfer, two existing Designer Rooms outlets (Ayr Road in Irvine and Campbell Street in Kilmarnock) must close, bringing the teams together and opening up exciting new business options for new tenants in existing locations. Please be advised that all current orders placed in the Irvine Showroom are unaffected by this move.

The Irvine showroom will be the first to close, making way for 123-ABC, a local family-owned baby-wear and pram business. Because this is such an amazing opportunity for 123-ABC, they want to go forward and establish their brand-new flagship shop in early spring, thus the closing sale at The Designer Rooms in Irvine must begin immediately. New tenants have also been found for the present DR site on Campbell Street in Kilmarnock, however the transfer will take place closer to the summer.

Starting on Friday, February 16th, Irvine consumers will queue to purchase the excellent designer furniture they know and love at clearance prices during our closing down sale. As we speak, it’s all hands on deck at Ayr Road in Irvine, as they prepare for their biggest sale event yet. Every single item is being reduced to help get their showroom emptied. Are you a DR fan? Well, this is your chance… All stock must go, with no reasonable offer refused.
