Unsettling crime drama filmed in Ayrshire *

Four years after it first aired, Deadwater Fell, starring David Tennant and Cush Jumbo, is seeing a resurgence of attention.
An eerie Ayrshire-shot crime drama has risen to the top of Netflix’s ratings.

Deadwater Fell, which dethroned Sophia Vergara’s Griselda from the top slot, is presently the most coveted position. It also sits above the popular crime thriller Fool Me Once.

Starring David Tennant and Cush Jumbo, the miniseries had its premiere on Channel 4 in January 2020. However, it is currently having a resurgence on the international streaming platform.

The four-part series was primarily shot in the town of Dunlop, with some scenes shot at Culzean and Irvine Beach.

The village in East Ayrshire served as a stand-in for the made-up town of Kirkdarroch, and the community building was converted into the murder mystery’s police station.

The plot of the thriller essentially centres on a seemingly content family that is discovered dead after a house fire.

The show’s director, who is also from Ayrshire, disclosed ahead of the show’s premiere that the village was crucial to the success of the four-part drama’s filming over several weeks in 2019.

Ayrshire Live was previously informed by Kilwinning’s Lynsey Miller that “we filmed an enormous amount in Dunlop.”

That served as our primary shooting location. We also shot some scenes in Kilbarchan, but most of them were in Dunlop.
