Following a terrifying smash this morning in Kilmarnock, a woman has passed away.
At approximately 9.35 am, the 24-year-old was declared deceased at the scene of the two-car collision on the B7038 Ayr Road.
The woman’s next of kin have been notified, according to the police, although formal identification has not yet occurred.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa died following an accident with an Audi Q2.
The 64-year-old female passenger and the 67-year-old female driver of the Audi were brought to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for medical attention. Their health status has not been made public.
After the incident, road police are now requesting information.
The Road Policing Unit’s sergeant Martin Cunningham stated: “We’re still investigating the complete set of circumstances surrounding what transpired. We are saddened by the loss of this young woman, and our prayers are with her friends and family.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have dash cam footage to get in touch with us as soon as possible if they haven’t already spoken to the police or given them this information.”
About six and a half hours were spent with the route closed. I would want to express my gratitude to the public for bearing with us as we looked into this very tragic collision.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland at 101 and reference Monday, December 18, 2023, incident number 0830.”
Drivers were rerouted towards Caprington Estate and Gatehead while emergency personnel responded to the collision’s aftermath for the most of the day.
“The entire road was closed off as you headed towards the A77,” stated an eyewitness who was there at the event.
“At least one fire engine, several police cars, and a van were stationed at the scene of the collision to prevent vehicles from ignoring the closed-signage route.
“Drivers had to head down the back roads which lead to Gatehead and Dundonald, or through into Symington the back way.”
