King’s Lynn youngster Anders Rowe says he rides at his best when he’s enjoying the sport.
It’s a big year for the 21-year-old who takes the Rising Star berth for the Stars, and he will expect to make sufficient progress for this to be his final season at that level.
The first job is to become the dominant force against fellow British riders who hold the equivalent spot around the country, and competition is fierce with the likes of Leon Flint at Birmingham and Dan Thompson at Ipswich.
“I always set targets and last year I exceeded them big-time, but the biggest thing is having fun.
“I know it’s my job obviously and I’ve got to pay the bills, so I’ll be racing my hardest and giving 110 per cent.
“I also want to put on a good show for the fans around every racetrack, and never give up!”
He said: “King’s Lynn were struck by the horrible injury curse last year, and as everyone knows in the speedway world one year you’ll have it and the next year a different team will have it.
“They were really hit with the injury run for several riders, and that’s no fault of the club or the riders, it’s just one of those things that can’t be helped. “Then you have recovery time and things like that, so I think it was just an unfortunate situation that really could have been any club that could have been hit with the injury run.
“King’s Lynn made a couple of team changes and it got better towards the end of the year, and the guys that were there had a really good team bond.”
The new season is in its infancy with the Stars side only coming together for the first time last week, for press and practice, and then their opening fixture at Leicester.
But Rowe is already encouraged by what he’s seen, and the team have a chance to push on at home with meetings to come over the next fortnight against Birmingham and Belle Vue.
He said: “It’s really good to have riders like Tobiasz (Musielak) in the team, riders who are quite experienced not just in England but also on the continent.
“There are some other really good riders, you’ve got (Vadim) Tarasenko and (Benjamin) Basso, people like that, so it looks good from one to seven, and also Rob (Lyon) is a brilliant team manager.
“He’s been around for years, and he came to a couple of meetings towards the end of last year just to watch and observe, and even though he wasn’t team manager at the time he was helping me and giving me little pointers, so it’s great to be working with him now.”
