Council back Rob Burrow plans and confirm civic reception

Since the tragic passing of Rob Burrow on the 2nd June 2024, there has been an unstoppable flood of tributes. Almost as soon as the news broke, fans of of all clubs began laying tributes to the former Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain man at the Rhinos’ Headingley home.

Earlier this week, incredible footage shared by the Yorkshire Evening Post shows the scale of the tribute to Burrow, with the club saying a total of 668 shirts have been laid in tribute to Rob Burrow. The club also announced plans to photograph and collate the tributes into a book of memorial.

Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos will honour Burrow’s memory when the two sides meet this weekend, and Leeds have a series of tributes planned for their next home Super League game at Headingley on the 21st June, including a special fundraising shirt for MND related causes.

Now, Leeds City Council have provided an update on plans for a lasting tribute to Burrow in the city

The Leeds City Council is now fully supporting the idea of erecting a permanent memorial to Burrow in the city. A meeting of the council is scheduled to examine a report that makes proposals for Burrow’s honor, according to a statement posted on the council’s website.

The council is completely in favor of the proposals, even if no decisions have been taken yet. In addition, a sizable public gathering will be held to commemorate Burrow’s memory. The declaration read as follows:

“The meeting, being held next Wednesday (June 19), will be told that – given his hugely positive impact on Leeds – it is important for the city to find a suitable way of celebrating his achievements, both on and off the field.

“A report being presented to the meeting makes it clear that no decision has yet been taken on how best to honour Rob.

Following Rob Burrow’s untimely death on June 2, 2024, an endless stream of condolences has been sent. Fans of all clubs started paying their respects to the former Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain player at the Rhinos’ Headingley home almost immediately after the news broke.The Yorkshire Evening Post released some amazing video earlier this week that illustrates the scope of the homage to Rob Burrow. According to the club, 668 shirts have been placed in his honor. The group also said that it would take pictures of the tributes and compile them into a book of remembrance.
