Bad news for Farke: “Aggressive” Leeds player out in new injury blow – report

This is not what Whites supporters want to hear.

Leeds United’s hopes of making the Championship this season have taken a hit after learning of a new injury setback for a young player at Elland Road.

           Leeds injury news

Although Daniel Farke needed some time to get used to his new surroundings, the Whites didn’t exactly have an impressive start to the season. However, as the season has progressed, his team has impressed. Leeds, who have won four of their past five league games and are currently ranked third in the Championship, will face a formidable test on Friday night when they travel to Leicester City, the league leaders who have only lost one league game in 2023–2024.

Unfortunately for the Whites, they have not been without injury problems going into the game, with Joe Rodon, Sam Byram and Crysencio Summerville all doubts leading up to the clash, even though they may end up being available. A key update has now emerged over the fitness of another influential Leeds figure, however, and things don’t look as positive with him.

     Gelhardt suffers injury setback

Joe Gelhardt: It was a good team performance - Leeds United

Joe Gelhardt, an attacker for Leeds, fractured his hand during a training session, according to a recent update from Farke:

“Unfortunately, Joe Gelhardt broke his hand during training yesterday. We will wait for additional testing to determine the extent of the injury. He will undoubtedly miss the next few weeks, so we need to do more testing. If his condition warrants it, we might even need to operate on him, but that will happen in the coming days, and this will not be discussed during the upcoming game.”

Given how exciting Gelhgardt is and how recently he advanced from the academy to the first team, this is a huge blow for Leeds. Jamie Redknapp, a pundit for Sky Sports, has expressed his admiration for the Englishman in the past, saying:

“You can see that he made a significant impact on the field. I find him interesting; I like him. He gets on the ball quickly, is aggressive, and challenges people. He adores the box once he’s inside and can do the most of his damage there.”

Joe Gelhardt’s Leeds stats Total
Appearances 48
Goals 3
Assists 7

The 21-year-old is someone who can play a really positive role in Leeds’ promotion push as the season continues, however, possessing the tenacity and quality in the final third to cause defences huge problems on his day.
