After Leeds United’s misfiring strikers failed to convert their domination into a point in their FA Cup fourth-round 1-1 tie with Plymouth Argyle, Daniel Farke declined to be overly critical of his players.
In order to counter their Championship rivals on Saturday, the Germans started Liam Cooper, Jamie Shackleton, Sam Byram, Willy Gnonto, Joel Piroe, and Jaidon Anthony in place of the starting lineup.
Anthony gave Leeds the lead with a brilliant goal in the first half, but the home team was unable to maintain their lead as Adam Randell’s equalizer forced a rematch for the visitors. In fact, with Patrick Bamford rested and Crysencio Summerville and Daniel James ruled out due to injury, Gnonto and Piroe may be lamenting a lost chance to make a move for a starting spot in the first team.
Farke was eager to rest several players ahead of Leeds’ match at Bristol City on Friday night due to the team’s demanding Championship schedule; of course, this means they now have an additional match to worry about. However, he was eager to downplay the effect the adjustments had on him and said that everything continued as usual.
“I don’t think it’s all that their fault. I sympathize with them a little as I understand that it’s not always simple,” Farke remarked. “I believe that two or three changes are good when you have such a turnaround; six changes is usually a bit too many for a group to have a healthy time.
