The Whites boss was speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the 21-year-old, who is on loan at Saturday’s opponents Middlesbrough.
Greenwood will not play against parent club Leeds in the 3pm GMT kickoff at Elland Road due to EFL rules.
Greenwood returned to his native north-east after leaving Leeds on loan in the summer. The offensive prodigy was born in Sunderland and began his career at the Academy of Light.
He has been in excellent form for the Teesside club, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 15 appearances.
Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood ‘progressing in the right way’
Farke was ready to extol Greenwood’s praises as a set-piece expert ahead of the match between Leeds and Boro.
However, the German emphasised that he does not regret loaning out the playmaker due to the number of bodies ahead of him in the Whites attack.
“We are happy that he is progressing in the right way,” Farke remarked.
“When you loan someone out, either he returns or his value increases, and I believe it was the right decision to loan him out.” He is a young player with a lot of promise.
“He is one of the most skilled set piece takers I have ever worked with.” Even in our group, he would be second to none, but as a young player, you have to make sure you play every day.
“He was also unlucky with his injury, and with Summerville, James, Piroe, Rutter, and Gnonto on the team, it would have been difficult for him to get game time, but he is now on the right track to play day in and day out.”
“He has no regrets, and he has good chances to look back on a really good loan and the main topic is that he won’t score against us and this won’t happen. No regrets.”
It’s encouraging to see Greenwood doing so well. He’s a great talent who appears to have a bright future in the game.
At the same time, it’s tough to imagine him ever wearing the Leeds shirt again, at least in the near future.
Boro have a £1.5 million option to purchase Greenwood. Given his current form and the fact that he has the rest of his career ahead of him, the club will very certainly exercise this option.
And, with the player enjoying his football, progressing as a player, and living closer to home, you’d think he’d leap at the chance to continue his adventure at Riverside.
