Leeds have done well to appoint him’: Chris Sutton gives Daniel Farke verdict, believes he will get Leeds promoted this season
There isn’t a Leeds United fan in the world who isn’t satisfied with manager Daniel Farke’s work in West Yorkshire since he took over in the summer, and the team is now riding high following three straight league victories.
Under extremely challenging circumstances, Farke assumed the top job at Elland Road with several key players either about to complete or already having completed season-long loan departures. This state of instability extended to the boardroom as well, with the EFL still to approve the American consortium led by 49ers Enterprises’ ownership of the club.
Although there is still a lot of uncertainty around Leeds’ immediate and long-term future, the Whites’ supporters still believe that Farke has managed everything that has been thrown at him with a combination of skill and cunning.
And Leeds has won three of their previous four games in a row, indicating that Farke’s tactical acumen is now showing on the field and, more crucially, producing favourable outcomes.
Farke’s team is undoubtedly in a promising position in third place, and while it is still far too early in the demanding Championship season to declare promotion into the Premier League as anything close to guaranteed, the focus now is on closing the gap between Ipswich Town and Leicester City, the division’s two dominant teams.
In light of this, Sutton asserted that Farke will see the Whites promoted this season and that by selecting the German, the Elland Road supporters might have discovered the next Marcelo Bielsa.
Sutton said to The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport, “He certainly ticks that box in terms of Leeds fans wanting an attacking brand of football.”
“I believe he has had a lot on his plate; there has been a significant turnover in players, and naturally, his biggest problem is that every Leeds supporter is looking for the next Marcelo Bielsa.
However, I genuinely believe that he will get them up this season. simply because to his expertise, know-how, and ability to assemble his teams in a way that maximises their potential. Thus, I believe Leeds made a good choice in appointing him.
Given Bielsa’s long-lasting influence at the team, it might be premature to draw comparisons between him and Farke, but there’s no denying that if Farke could guide the Whites back to the top division this season, he would go down in the club’s extensive annals of history.
For the time being, though, the focus should be on Leeds’ match against league underdogs Stoke on Wednesday night. Leeds has to win three points to increase the pressure on the teams that are currently holding the automatic promotion slots above them.
