Following Leeds and Hammarby’s meeting last week, Leeds United have chosen not to peruse Nathaniel Adjei as a priority and instead are targeting other central defender targets this January transfer window

Not urgent

Although Leeds United’s defence could use some improvement this month, the center-back grouping isn’t the main area that needs assistance.

Full-back is a far bigger problem because Luke Ayling is scheduled to depart for Middlesbrough and Djed Spence has already returned to Tottenham. Sam Byram and Junior Firpo are also serious injury concerns.

Conversely, Daniel Farke has a solid starting midfield duo in Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon (on loan), with captain Liam Cooper providing backup. Ethan Ampadu, a standout player in the midfield, was moved into defence for the FA Cup victory over Peterborough United last weekend.

There doesn’t seem to be much need to sign Charlie Cresswell’s age-mate from the Swedish league unless the manager decides to change his mind and let the highly sought-after Englishman go, as the 21-year-old and his father are already unhappy about Charlie Cresswell’s difficulties getting a look in.

Adjei might have made sense for the summer and beyond, but it remains to be seen if Cooper follows Ayling out the door when his own contract expires at the end of the season, as does the Whites’ ability to complete a permanent deal for Rodon.

However, it appears Leeds United has decided against making a move for him, so it appears he won’t be visiting Elland Road in the near future near future.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared an update on a Premier League target that he’s been told the Whites are interested in.
