Rory McIlroy rejected Leeds investment opportunity as he has eyes on Manchester United stak
According to Rory McIlroy, he was given the opportunity to invest in Leeds United. but acknowledged he had to decline the opportunity.
Along with NFL players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as Anthony Joshua, Trent Alexander Arnold, Juan Mata, and Formula 1 team Alpine, McIlroy has ventured into the world of sports team ownership.
They are a part of a strategic investment worth £173 million in Alpine, headed by the consortium Otro Capital.
The 34-year-old said that he has his sights set on making a minor investment in a Premier League team, but he hasn’t had the chance to do it yet.
“Private equity and extremely wealthy individuals used to be the only people able to own sports teams, but these days sports stars are becoming more astute,” McIlroy stated.
“When Jim Ratcliffe came on board, I would have loved to have taken 0.00001 percent of Manchester United.” I will consider another chance if it presents itself.
“I would adore having a small ownership stake in the team that I grew up supporting as a boy.” That’d be really awesome. As of yet, nothing like that has crossed our table.
“However, Tom Brady plays for Birmingham, and two golfers who have invested with the 49ers Group—who control a portion of Leeds—are Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas. I replied, “As a Man United fan, I cannot go anywhere near that,” when they asked whether I wanted to join the team.
The Glazers, who will continue to retain the majority of shares in United, are expected to sell Ratcliffe a quarter of their company.
TalkSPORT is aware that the billionaire’s partial takeover may yet require a few weeks to complete.
